Understand Sharpened Claws
Useful when…
- Use when a Kavat attack with armor-sundering behavior is useful to your companion setup.
- Compare Pounce for its stated stun or Tek Assault for its lethal-damage protection when those effects are the goal.
What does the precept do?
At rank 0, Sharpened Claws makes the Kavat attack for 150% damage and sunder armor by 30%. At rank 3, it reaches 300% damage and 120% armor sundering. The description also says the attack rends flesh, but does not quantify that phrase. This is an attack precept for Kavats, not a player weapon mod.
When is it a useful choice?
Consider it when you want the Kavat's attack to deal more damage while sundering armor. Pounce instead lists a 90% damage pounce that stuns briefly. Fear Sense describes a 25-second window in which Kavat attacks deal +200% damage and stagger, with a 30% chance of knockdown. Tek Assault offers a 60% chance to ignore lethal damage and become immune for 4 seconds. These effects address different needs; Sharpened Claws is the armor-sundering attack option among them.
How should you rank it?
The standard Kavat mod has Madurai polarity, base drain 2, and a maximum rank of 3. Ranking raises both the attack's listed damage and armor-sundering values, with increasing fusion costs. Invest when those improvements justify the Endo, Credits, and companion mod capacity.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Uses Kavat mod capacity for an offensive precept.
- Its armor-sundering value and attack damage increase with fusion investment.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not attribute Pounce's stun or Tek Assault's survival effect to Sharpened Claws.
- Do not read the 120% armor-sundering value as a player damage bonus.
