Understand Tandem Bond
Useful when…
- Building melee Combo through companion melee hits
- Boosting companion melee damage after using a Heavy Attack
What the two effects do
Companion melee hits add to your Combo: 1 per hit at rank 0, 4 at rank 3, and 6 at rank 5. A Heavy Attack increases companion melee damage for 30 seconds. The bonus is 5% per your combo multiplier at rank 0, 20% at rank 3, and 30% at rank 5; the stated multiplier means the bonus scales with your combo multiplier.
When to use it
The mod is relevant when you use melee attacks to build Combo and your companion lands melee hits. A Heavy Attack then converts that combo state into a timed companion melee damage bonus. Its benefit is limited when the companion is not making melee hits or you do not use Heavy Attacks.
Fit and rank investment
Tandem Bond is a Rare Beast mod with Madurai polarity, base drain 2, and maximum rank 5. Ranking improves both the Combo added per companion hit and the Heavy Attack damage bonus. The rank 4-to-5 step costs 480 Endo and 23,184 Credits; consider that investment if you regularly activate both parts of its effect.
Related companion roles
Fetch gathers items within 13.5 meters, including mods. Hunter Command makes a companion attack an enemy after you apply Slash status, while Hunter Recovery heals the Warframe based on companion damage dealt. Those serve collection, attack direction, and healing roles rather than Tandem Bond's Combo and Heavy Attack interaction.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The damage bonus requires a Heavy Attack and lasts 30 seconds.
- The Combo gain depends on companion melee hits, so it does not provide that gain when the companion is not landing them.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Reading the 30% bonus as a flat companion damage increase independent of combo multiplier.
- Expecting the bonus to trigger from companion hits; the damage bonus is triggered by your Heavy Attack.
