Understand True Punishment
Useful when…
- Melee setups that prioritize accumulating combo count during sustained attacks.
- Situations where you can keep attacking often enough to offset the shorter combo duration.
What does it do?
At maximum rank, it grants +100% Additional Combo Count Chance and reduces Combo Duration by 50%. At rank 0, those values are +25% and -12.5%; rank 2 gives +75% and -37.5%. The chance bonus concerns additional combo count, while the duration penalty makes accumulated combo less forgiving to maintain.
When is it useful?
It is a conditional choice for melee builds that repeatedly attack and want combo count to build faster. If your attacks are intermittent, the shorter duration can work against that goal. Enduring Strike instead grants +20% Additional Combo Count Chance on Lifted enemies, so its bonus has a specific enemy condition. Drifting Contact offers +10s Combo Duration and +40% Status Chance, addressing duration and status rather than extra combo count. Guardian Derision grants +30% Combo Count Chance while Blocking and taunts enemies within 15 meters, so it is tied to blocking and a support-oriented effect.
Rank and fit
This standard melee mod has Zenurik polarity, base drain 4, and a maximum rank of 3. Fusion costs rise across its three upgrades: the listed steps cost 10, 20, then 40 Endo, with 483, 966, then 1,932 Credits. Since ranking raises the extra combo chance while also worsening the duration penalty, stop at a rank that fits how consistently you attack and maintain combo.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The increased additional combo count chance comes with a substantial reduction to combo duration at high rank.
- Its standard slot and Zenurik polarity must fit the melee weapon's mod configuration.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Ranking it without accounting for the matching increase in combo-duration penalty.
- Treating its bonus as a flat combo-count increase rather than an additional combo count chance.
