Understand Guardian Derision
Useful when…
- Drawing nearby enemies toward you while blocking to help protect allies.
- Adding Combo Count Chance in a build that blocks regularly.
What does it do?
While blocking, the mod taunts enemies within its radius to target you instead of allies. Its range grows from 6 meters at rank 0 to 10 meters at rank 3 and 15 meters at rank 5. It also provides +5% to +30% Combo Count Chance while blocking across those ranks.
When is it useful?
It suits a deliberate blocking role: remain close enough to allies and enemies for the taunt radius to matter, and block to activate both effects. It is an Exilus melee mod with Vazarin polarity and a base drain of 6; it is compatible with melee weapons.
How far should you rank it?
Ranking improves both the taunt radius and Combo Count Chance. Rank it further when the larger area and stronger blocking bonus support your intended role; if you only need a smaller-radius taunt, a lower rank preserves fusion resources. It has five ranks, and the listed example costs rise from 30 Endo and 1,449 Credits for rank 0 to 1, to 480 Endo and 23,184 Credits for rank 4 to 5.
What should you keep in mind?
Both effects require blocking, so this mod contributes little when you rarely block. Its Combo Count Chance bonus is conditional on blocking; do not treat it as a general melee combo bonus. Other combo-focused mods have different conditions: Enduring Strike applies its additional chance to Lifted enemies, Quickening adds attack speed and Combo Count Chance, and True Punishment trades shorter Combo Duration for additional chance.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Its taunt and Combo Count Chance require blocking.
- Ranking raises both effects but consumes additional fusion resources.
- The taunt redirects attention toward you, which may not fit a role that avoids enemy focus.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the taunt or Combo Count Chance to work without blocking.
- Treating the Combo Count Chance bonus as unconditional.
- Ranking it to maximum when the smaller taunt radius already fits the intended play.
