Understand Obsidian Codex
Useful when…
- On-field damage while in Nightsoul’s Blessing
- Characters who consume Nightsoul points during combat
What do the bonuses require?
Two pieces increase the wearer’s damage dealt by 15% while they are both on-field and in Nightsoul’s Blessing. With four pieces, consuming one Nightsoul point while on-field grants 40% CRIT Rate for 6 seconds. The effect can trigger once per second, so its uptime depends on meeting the point-consumption condition; the bonus is not unconditional.
When is it a practical fit?
It is a focused option for a damage dealer who spends time on-field in Nightsoul’s Blessing and regularly consumes Nightsoul points. If either condition is absent, the corresponding set bonus does not apply. For a different role, Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City instead grants nearby party members Elemental DMG Bonus after the wearer triggers a related reaction; it can trigger off-field and gains an additional bonus when the wearer is in Nightsoul’s Blessing.
What should you weigh?
The four-piece effect offers a substantial CRIT Rate increase but lasts only 6 seconds and requires point consumption while on-field. A Day Carved From Rising Winds has a different condition: a qualifying hit grants ATK for 6 seconds, with additional CRIT Rate only if the wearer has completed Witch’s Homework. These sets serve different triggers, so compare the wearer’s actual mechanics before committing to a four-piece setup.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The damage bonus requires both Nightsoul’s Blessing and on-field presence.
- The four-piece CRIT Rate buff requires point consumption on-field and lasts 6 seconds.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the two-piece damage bonus applies while the wearer is off-field or outside Nightsoul’s Blessing.
- Treating the four-piece CRIT Rate as permanent without checking point consumption and its 6-second duration.
