Understand Ocean-Hued Clam
Useful when…
- Adding nearby damage while maintaining a healing role
- A healer whose healing can contribute to the Sea-Dyed Foam
How does the effect work?
Two pieces grant 15% Healing Bonus. With four pieces, healing a party member creates a Sea-Dyed Foam for 3 seconds. The foam accumulates HP recovered, including overflow healing, then explodes for damage based on 90% of the accumulated healing. Each foam can accumulate up to 30,000 HP; only one foam can be active at a time, and a foam can be produced once every 3.5 seconds. The damage is calculated similarly to Electro-Charged and Superconduct, and is not affected by Elemental Mastery, character levels, or Reaction DMG Bonuses. The effect can trigger while the wearer is off-field.
When should you consider it?
Consider the set for a wearer who heals party members, since that healing accumulates toward the foam’s damage, including healing beyond a recipient’s missing HP. Song of Days Past also records healing, but uses it differently: after a 6-second recording period, qualifying hits by the active party member gain damage based on the recorded healing. Its recording cap is 15,000 healing, and the damage effect can apply up to five times.
What limits its value?
The foam’s damage depends on the amount of healing it accumulates, up to 30,000 HP per foam. The set allows only one active foam at a time and specifies a 3-second accumulation duration and a 3.5-second production interval. Gilded Dreams and Flower of Paradise Lost instead provide Elemental Mastery or reaction damage bonuses; those effects describe reaction-focused benefits rather than Clam’s healing-based damage.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Damage depends on healing accumulated by the foam, up to its 30,000 HP cap.
- Only one foam can be active at a time, with a 3-second duration and a 3.5-second production interval.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Elemental Mastery, character levels, or Reaction DMG Bonuses to increase the foam’s damage.
- Overlooking the one-active-foam limit or the 30,000 HP accumulation cap.
