Understand Pale Flame
Useful when…
- Physical damage builds with repeatable Elemental Skill hits
- On-field or off-field Skill use that can build two stacks
How do its stacks work?
Two pieces give 25% Physical DMG. With four pieces, an Elemental Skill hit on an opponent grants 9% ATK for 7 seconds. The effect can stack twice and can trigger once every 0.3 seconds. At two stacks, the two-piece effect is increased by 100%, making its Physical DMG bonus 50% while that condition holds.
Who can use it well?
Its value depends on the wearer’s ability to land Skill hits often enough to build and refresh both stacks. If the Skill does not hit, the four-piece effect cannot build from that use. Tenacity of the Millelith also activates from Skill hits, but its four-piece effect instead gives nearby party members ATK and Shield Strength for 3 seconds; it can trigger while its wearer is off-field. That is a party-support effect, not Pale Flame’s personal Physical DMG bonus.
What alternatives change the trigger?
For a Plunging Attack-focused wearer, Long Night’s Oath builds stacks from Plunging Attacks, Charged Attacks, or Elemental Skills, with stacks increasing Plunging Attack damage. Song of Days Past is healing-dependent and supports the active party member’s qualifying hits. Neither reproduces Pale Flame’s Physical DMG bonus, so choose based on the damage type and action that actually drives the build.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The four-piece ATK bonus and doubled Physical DMG bonus rely on Skill hits and two-stack uptime.
- The set’s damage bonuses are specialized for Physical damage.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the doubled two-piece effect applies before reaching two stacks.
- Expecting the four-piece ATK stacks without Elemental Skill hits on opponents.
