Understand Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat
Useful when…
- A Nihility wearer who attacks often enough to attempt the effect on unensnared enemies.
- A combat setup that benefits from reducing a target’s DEF for a short period.
What triggers Ensnare?
When the wearer hits an enemy that is not already Ensnared, the Light Cone has a base chance to inflict Ensnare. At S1, that base chance is 60%; at S5, it is 100%. An Ensnared enemy has its DEF reduced for one turn: 12% at S1 and 16% at S5. The effect checks whether the enemy is already Ensnared before attempting to apply it, so repeated hits on an already Ensnared target do not start another application under the stated condition.
When is the short debuff useful?
The DEF reduction can support damage against the affected enemy while the one-turn effect lasts. The Light Cone itself does not state an area effect, so its application is tied to the enemy hit. A wearer who attacks multiple distinct, unensnared enemies can attempt to apply the effect to those targets; its stated base chance is not a guarantee except at S5, and the supplied description does not specify additional chance modifiers.
How should it be improved?
Promotion raises the Light Cone through stage 6. Superimposition raises the base chance and the amount of DEF reduction; the duration remains one turn at every listed rank. Each superimposition step consumes one S1 sacrifice copy. Promotion is useful as a level investment, while duplicate copies have a clear effect on application reliability and reduction strength but do not lengthen the debuff.
What do other Nihility options do?
Before the Tutorial Mission Starts grants Effect Hit Rate and regenerates Energy when its wearer attacks DEF-reduced enemies, so its Energy condition can be met against a target already affected by a DEF reduction such as Ensnare. Boundless Choreo grants CRIT Rate and increases CRIT DMG against Slowed or DEF-reduced enemies. Along the Passing Shore instead emphasizes CRIT DMG and damage against targets bearing its Mirage Fizzle effect. Each supports a different wearer profile or combat trigger.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Ensnare only attempts to apply to an enemy that is not already Ensnared.
- The DEF reduction lasts one turn and does not grow longer with superimposition.
- The application chance is probabilistic below S5.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting a fresh application when the target is already Ensnared.
- Treating the base chance as a guaranteed application below S5.
- Assuming the DEF reduction lasts longer at higher superimposition.
