Understand Guard of Wuthering Snow
Useful when…
- Use two pieces when damage reduction is a useful defensive stat.
- Use four pieces when the wearer can benefit from the conditional HP and Energy recovery at turn start.
What triggers four-piece recovery?
Two pieces reduce DMG taken by 8%. At the beginning of the wearer's turn, if their HP percentage is equal to or below 50%, four pieces restore HP equal to 8% of their Max HP and regenerate 5 Energy. The condition is checked at turn start; the effect is not described as a general recovery whenever HP falls below half.
What is the defensive tradeoff?
The two-piece reduction is unconditional in the stated effect. The larger package adds recovery but depends on the wearer being at 50% HP or less at the beginning of their turn. It may therefore contribute little when the wearer stays above that threshold, while deliberately relying on low HP carries the obvious risk of remaining vulnerable before the trigger.
When does another role fit better?
Warrior Goddess of Sun and Thunder grants SPD and, after the wearer or their memosprite heals another ally, can grant the wearer SPD and allies CRIT DMG for 2 turns. That is a healing-triggered team benefit, unlike Guard's own low-HP recovery. As Navigator Isee Sees It and Band of Sizzling Thunder are damage-focused effects; they are not equivalents to Guard's damage reduction and recovery.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The four-piece recovery requires HP at or below 50% at the beginning of the wearer's turn.
- Relying on the threshold means the wearer can remain at low HP until the trigger occurs.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the recovery to trigger as soon as HP drops below half mid-turn.
- Reading the 5 Energy regeneration as unconditional rather than tied to the HP threshold.
