Understand Chilling Reload
Useful when…
- Add Cold damage while improving shotgun reload speed.
- Choose a dual-stat option when both bonuses matter more than maximizing Cold alone.
What does it add?
At maximum rank, the standard shotgun mod gives +60% Cold and +40% Reload Speed. At rank 0 it provides +15% Cold and +10% Reload Speed; rank 2 provides +45% and +30%, respectively. It has Madurai polarity, base drain 2, and maximum rank 3.
Rank investment
The three fusion steps cost 30, 60, and 120 Endo, plus 1,449, 2,898, and 5,796 Credits. Ranking improves both bonuses together. The capacity cost and Endo investment are modest in absolute listed terms, but the right stopping point depends on how much of each bonus the shotgun needs.
Compare the tradeoff
Chilling Grasp reaches +90% Cold at rank 5 but does not list Reload Speed; Chilling Reload trades away some Cold ceiling for its reload bonus. Flawed Tactical Pump is listed as a flawed reload-only option at +12% Reload Speed. Burdened Magazine instead adds magazine capacity while reducing Reload Speed, so it moves the reload tradeoff in the opposite direction. Kill Switch has a conditional reload bonus on kill for 3 seconds and is marked as a Conclave variant; it is not the same always-listed dual-stat effect as Chilling Reload.
Common mistake
Do not compare its +60% Cold directly with Chilling Grasp and ignore the second stat: Chilling Reload also provides +40% Reload Speed. Conversely, do not treat those listed bonuses as final weapon damage or reload time.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Lower maximum Cold bonus than Chilling Grasp in exchange for Reload Speed.
- Uses a standard shotgun mod slot and has Madurai polarity.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Comparing only the Cold bonus and overlooking Reload Speed.
- Treating Kill Switch’s on-kill Conclave effect as equivalent to a listed always-on bonus.
