Understand Ankyros
Useful when…
- Use normal attacks at close range; the weapon description specifically trades reach for speed.
- Use slam attacks for area Impact damage or heavy slams for area Blast damage.
- Consider it if a single Madurai polarity and 20% critical chance fit your intended melee setup.
Attacks and damage profile
Normal attacks deal 90 listed damage: 63 Impact, 13.5 Puncture, and 13.5 Slash. They attack at about 1.17 per second and list 20% critical chance, a 2× critical multiplier, and 10% status chance. A regular slam is an area Impact attack listed at 180 damage, with falloff to 8 m. A heavy slam is an area Blast attack listed at 270, with falloff to 9 m. Both slam modes list 10% status chance. The normal attack's short reach is central to using this weapon effectively.
Handling and fitting
Ankyros lists 1.25 m range, 0.9 follow-through, a 0.6-second heavy-attack wind-up, and a five-second combo duration. Its range is far shorter than the 3 m Bo staff in the comparisons, while its follow-through is higher than the Bo's listed 0.5. One Madurai polarity can guide mod fitting; the input does not prescribe which mods to install. Its mastery requirement is 2.
When another weapon fits better
Furax is also a fist weapon and is explicitly described as short-ranged, but its listed critical chance is 25% and multiplier 2.3, compared with Ankyros at 20% and 2×; Furax requires mastery rank 5. Glaive Prime is a glaive described as effective both close up and when thrown at distant enemies, so it fits a different reach pattern and requires rank 10. These facts support role comparisons, not an overall ranking.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The 1.25 m listed range requires close positioning.
- Normal damage is mostly Impact rather than Slash or Puncture.
- The 20% critical chance and 2× multiplier are lower than the supplied Furax comparison stats.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not try to use Ankyros as a reach weapon; its listed range is 1.25 m.
- Do not apply the normal attack's 10% status chance to slam attacks without noting those are separate modes.
- Do not mistake Furax's higher critical stats or Glaive Prime's thrown reach for Ankyros properties.
