Understand Azothane
Useful when…
- Use normal attacks for its listed Slash, Impact, and Puncture damage mix.
- Use the block-plus-melee input for the described plunge and nearby shockwave, which also adds to the combo counter.
- Use regular or heavy slams for their separate area attack modes.
Normal and slam modes
Normal attacks list 170 damage: 85 Slash, 51 Impact, and 34 Puncture, at about 1.17 per second, with 34% critical chance, a 3× multiplier, and 22% status chance. Regular slams are an area Slash attack listed at 340 damage with falloff to 7 m; heavy slams are area Blast listed at 510, also to 7 m. Both slam modes list 10% status chance. The special block-and-melee input described for Azothane is an additional conditional action; it should not be conflated with the regular or heavy slam entries.
Handling and fitting
Azothane lists 3.2 m range, 0.7 follow-through, 0.7-second heavy-attack wind-up, a five-second combo duration, and two Madurai polarities. Its block-and-attack mechanic explicitly adds to combo, so it can matter when you want to build that counter while triggering the nearby shockwave. Its mastery requirement is 0.
Alternatives with different mechanics
Stropha is a gunblade described as sending nearby enemies flying with a short-range shockwave. Vitrica has aim-glide glassing and slam interactions, while Korumm uses a Tactical Combo to trigger an electricity effect. Those mechanics differ from Azothane's block-and-melee plunge and combo gain; the comparisons do not establish a universal ranking.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The special shockwave requires the block-and-melee input; its numeric damage is not provided.
- Regular and heavy slams are separate damage modes from the conditional plunge action.
- Its 3× critical multiplier is paired with a 34% critical chance; the multiplier alone does not describe every hit.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not assume the block-and-melee shockwave has the same values as either listed slam mode.
- Do not forget the special action requires blocking and melee attack at the same time.
- Do not read its high critical multiplier as a guaranteed critical hit.
