Understand Caliban
Useful when…
- Lifting and amplifying damage against groups
- Summoning Sentients for melee, ranged attacks, or squad shields
- Stripping enemy armor and shields
How do the abilities work together?
Razor Gyre dashes through enemies, applies Tau status that makes them more vulnerable to other status effects, and restores some energy, Health, and Shields for every enemy hit. It deals increased damage to enemies lifted by Sentient Wrath. Sentient Wrath sends a radial blast; surviving enemies are lifted and take amplified damage briefly. Lethal Progeny cycles between Sentient types: Conculysts focus on melee, Ortholysts use ranged attacks and inflict Tau status, and Summulysts provide squad shield protection while summoning Choralysts. Fusion Strike converges three energy streams into an explosion, strips armor and shields, and causes enemies hit to detonate at convergence; summoned Conculysts can use mini Fusion Strikes.
When is Caliban useful?
Sentient Wrath creates a setup for Razor Gyre’s increased damage against lifted enemies. Razor Gyre can recover resources when it hits enemies, so hitting multiple targets supports the stated recovery effect. Choose a Lethal Progeny unit according to its described role: melee damage, ranged Tau application, or squad shield protection. Fusion Strike adds armor and shield stripping when enemies are caught in its streams and convergence.
What does his passive support?
Allies within Affinity range gain resistance to the types of damage they are currently taking, up to an unresolved maximum. Caliban’s listed stats are 270 Health, 550 Shield, and 290 Armor. Caliban Prime lists the same Health and Armor but 640 Shield and additional polarities; consider that version if those base-stat and customization differences matter.
What should you avoid assuming?
Razor Gyre’s recovery is tied to enemies hit, and its special damage condition requires enemies to be lifted by Sentient Wrath. The passive’s resistance limit is not numerically given. Summulysts provide shield protection, while the melee and ranged specializations belong to different summoned unit types.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Several effects depend on hitting enemies or lifting them first.
- Lethal Progeny units have distinct roles; selecting one does not provide every specialization at once.
- Passive resistance maximum is unspecified.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Razor Gyre’s lifted-target bonus without first lifting enemies with Sentient Wrath.
- Assuming every Lethal Progeny unit has the same role.
- Treating the passive’s unresolved resistance cap as a known number.
