Understand Kuva Tonkor
Useful when…
- Fire deliberate explosive shots at groups within the area effect.
- Use the quick listed reload to cycle single-round shots.
- Consider it when a high critical profile matters for an explosive launcher.
How does a shot work?
Grenade Impact is a projectile with listed speed 40 and 59 Puncture damage. Grenade Explosion is a separate area attack with 204 Slash, 168 Puncture, and 302 Blast damage; its falloff runs from 0 to 7 with 70% reduction. Both entries list 30% critical chance, a 2.5× multiplier, and 17% status chance. The weapon fires semi-automatically at a listed 3.17 rate, but holds one round and reloads in 1.5 seconds. The description notes increased reload speed compared with the basic Tonkor, without giving a numeric comparison.
When is it useful?
The area explosion allows one shot to affect targets near its blast, making it worth considering when enemies group together. Its critical chance and multiplier are among its defined handling properties, but actual damage outcomes depend on the target and build. Since the grenade is a projectile, the listed accuracy of 100 does not mean instant hit-scan impact; account for travel when aiming at moving targets.
What are the alternatives?
The standard Tonkor is also described as a Grineer grenade launcher, but the Kuva Tonkor entry specifically calls out increased reload speed. Carmine Penta offers a higher fire rate and oversized magazine, a different choice if more shots before reloading matter. Tenet Envoy's aimed rockets are wire-guided and travel more slowly, with a holster reload system. Those distinct functions may suit different handling preferences.
What should you avoid?
Do not combine the impact and explosion entries into one damage type or ignore the explosion's distance falloff. A one-round magazine means every shot is followed by a reload. Its 13 Mastery requirement is listed; the Kuva Lich tag does not guarantee an acquisition method or availability.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Single-round magazine requires a reload after each shot.
- Projectile impact must travel to its target, while the explosion loses damage with distance.
- Status chance is listed at 17%, below its critical chance.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the grenade impact and explosion share the same damage composition.
- Ignoring the 7-unit explosion falloff range.
- Confusing listed weapon accuracy with projectile travel.
