Understand Orthos Prime
Useful when…
- Use its listed range of 3 and polearm attack pattern to engage nearby groups.
- Choose between regular and Prime versions based on mastery access and their different listed base attack profiles.
- Use slam attacks for area damage when targets are within the effective radius.
What does Orthos Prime offer?
Orthos Prime requires Mastery Rank 12. Its normal attack lists 35.1 Impact, 35.1 Puncture, and 163.8 Slash damage, totaling 234. It attacks at speed 1.17, with 24% critical chance, a 2.2× critical multiplier, and 36% status chance. Its listed range is 3 and follow-through is 0.6. These properties retain the polearm's long-reaching, Slash-heavy profile while providing substantially higher listed critical and status chances than the regular Orthos.
How do the slam modes work?
A regular slam is listed at 468 Blast damage, with area falloff from 0 to 7 range and 50% reduction at the endpoint. A heavy slam is listed separately at 702 Blast damage, falling off from 0 to 8 range with 30% reduction at the endpoint. Each lists 10% status chance and 24% critical chance. The heavy attack damage value is 1,404 and wind-up is 0.9 seconds. These are separate attack modes; do not treat the slam values as extra normal-attack damage.
Is the Prime upgrade worth the requirement?
The regular Orthos requires Mastery Rank 2 and lists 185 normal-attack damage, 6% critical chance, a 1.5× critical multiplier, 18% status chance, and speed 0.917. Orthos Prime requires Rank 12 and lists 234 normal-attack damage, 24% critical chance, a 2.2× multiplier, 36% status chance, and speed 1.17. Both list range 3 and follow-through 0.6. Thus the Prime offers stronger base attack figures across these measures, but it is a later mastery investment; the regular weapon is an earlier-access option. Other candidate weapons include Reaper Prime and Dakra Prime, but their comparison entries alone do not establish equivalent polearm handling.
What limits its area attacks?
Both slam attacks lose damage with distance from the center: the regular slam reaches its listed falloff endpoint at 7 range, while the heavy slam reaches 8. The 50% and 30% reductions describe their respective endpoints. Do not assume every target within the radius receives the maximum listed value.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Requires Mastery Rank 12, compared with Rank 2 for regular Orthos.
- Its area slam damage falls off with distance even though the heavy slam has a larger listed value.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing slam values with normal-attack damage.
- Ignoring the Rank 12 requirement when planning to use it.
- Assuming targets at the edge of a slam's area receive full listed damage.
