Understand Pangolin Sword
Useful when…
- Use normal attacks for Slash-weighted melee damage and status application.
- Use its listed Madurai polarity when fitting a compatible mod.
- Use slam attacks for area damage while accounting for their distinct damage types and falloff.
How does Pangolin Sword attack?
The sword requires Mastery Rank 3. Its normal attack lists 7.5 Impact, 22.5 Puncture, and 120 Slash damage, totaling 150. Attack speed is 0.917; critical chance is 8%, critical multiplier is 1.5×, and status chance is 22%. Its physical damage favors Slash, while the modest critical profile makes status a more natural starting point for build consideration. Its listed range is 2.5 and follow-through is 0.6.
What do the slam attacks do?
A regular slam is listed at 300 Puncture damage, with falloff from 0 to 7 range and a 50% reduction at the endpoint. Heavy slam deals 450 Blast damage and has a 30% endpoint reduction over the same range. Both list 8% critical chance and 10% status chance. The weapon lists 750 heavy-attack damage and a 0.6-second wind-up. These are separate modes from the 150-damage normal attack.
What improvements fit its base profile?
The 22% normal-attack status chance and Slash-heavy damage make status-oriented investment a reasonable direction. Critical-focused investment starts from 8% critical chance and a 1.5× multiplier, so weigh that base against the mods available to you. The sword has one listed Madurai polarity, which benefits a compatible mod but does not mean every planned mod will fit efficiently. It requires Rank 3, compared with Rank 12 for the Skana Prime candidate; the comparison entries do not supply enough detail to establish that the other weapon is a direct replacement for this sword's handling.
What should you watch for?
Do not expect the regular slam and heavy slam to use the same damage type: the former is Puncture and the latter Blast. Both lose damage toward their 7-range endpoint. Also distinguish the normal attack's 22% status chance from the 10% listed for the slam modes.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Its status chance is stronger than its base critical chance and multiplier.
- The regular and heavy slam attacks have different damage types from each other and from normal attacks.
- The single Madurai polarity only benefits compatible mods.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming its slam attacks share normal-attack damage or status chance.
- Ignoring falloff at the edge of the slam area.
- Treating the Madurai polarity as a bonus for mods of other polarities.
