Understand Penta
Useful when…
- Place grenades before triggering them when timing the explosion around enemy movement is useful.
- Use the impact component when a grenade hits directly, while recognizing that the larger listed damage is in its separate detonation attack.
What happens on impact and detonation?
Grenade Impact is a projectile traveling at 20 m/s and deals 75 impact damage, with 10% critical chance, a 2× multiplier, and 10% status chance. Grenade Detonation is a separate area attack listing 350 blast damage, with falloff from 0–4 m and a 50% reduction at the outer end. The launcher’s total listed damage is 425 across those components, but impact and detonation are separate events. Do not assume that the grenade detonates on impact; the weapon description specifies remote triggering.
How should I use it?
It has an active trigger, a listed fire rate of 1, five-round magazine, and 2.5-second reload. Fire up to the magazine capacity and trigger grenades at a useful time; projectile speed is listed at 20 m/s, so placement is not instantaneous.
What upgrades are sensible?
The listed attack has 10% critical chance and 10% status chance, so the supplied values do not point strongly to either as an obvious focus. The weapon requires Mastery 6 and has no listed polarity.
What can be inconvenient?
A 2.5-second reload and five-round magazine make prolonged firing dependent on reload windows. Remote detonation means waiting for the right timing can delay the blast, and the explosion loses half its listed damage at the outer edge of its 4 m falloff. Account for the projectile before triggering and avoid assuming full damage across the entire area.
What other launchers handle differently?
Carmine Penta is described as having a higher fire rate and oversized magazine, while Kuva Ogris is described as semi-automatic with a smaller magazine and greater damage per shot than its basic version. Kuva Tonkor is described as having increased reload speed. These notes identify different tradeoffs; they do not establish which is preferable for a given build.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Remote timing gives control over detonation but adds a step after projectile placement.
- Blast is the larger damage component but loses 50% at the 4 m falloff endpoint.
- Five-round magazine and 2.5-second reload constrain sustained use.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming grenades automatically detonate on impact.
- Expecting full listed blast damage at the 4 m edge.
