Understand Protea
Useful when…
- Choosing shrapnel control or protective Shield Satellites with Grenade Fan.
- Using Dispensary for health, ammo, and Energy pickups.
- Deploying Temporal Anchor when you want a rewind that returns resources and can save her from death while active.
Grenade Fan modes
Grenade Fan has two distinct held or tapped configurations. Tap creates Shrapnel Vortex, a slashing, staggering swirl. Hold switches the grenades to Shield Satellites that protect Protea, allies, and companions. When Shields break, a Satellite is destroyed to double minimum Shield Gate invincibility time. The protection mode is therefore tied to deployed satellites and shield breaks; it is separate from the shrapnel attack.
Damage and supplies
Blaze Artillery deploys a unit that fires plasma charges at enemies it faces; each enemy hit increases the power of subsequent plasma attacks. Dispensary creates three pickups after a short delay: an empowered Health Orb, a universal ammo pack, and an Energy Orb. Protea’s passive grants an unresolved Ability Strength bonus to every unresolved numbered Power Cast, so its exact trigger interval and amount cannot be stated.
Temporal Anchor
Temporal Anchor rewinds Protea after a short duration and triggers a temporal implosion whose damage increases based on damage dealt between placing the anchor and rewinding. Everything lost or expended during that interval is returned. If Protea dies while the anchor is active, she rewinds to it, is knocked down, and the anchor vanishes. This is a conditional recovery tool, not an always-active safeguard; the anchor must be placed and remain active.
Build considerations and comparisons
Protea has 270 Health, 455 Shields, 135 Armor, and 175 Power, with Madurai and Naramon polarities and an aura polarity. Her strong shield-focused use case is the held Shield Satellites mode, while Dispensary serves resources and Blaze Artillery damage. Protea Prime is described as a protector with time-wielding abilities, while Voruna’s comparison emphasizes a wolf pack; neither summary establishes the same Grenade Fan choices, Dispensary, or rewind mechanics.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Grenade Fan’s tap and hold inputs select different functions.
- Temporal Anchor’s recovery depends on an active anchor and ends with a knockdown if it saves Protea from death.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Mixing up Grenade Fan’s tap shrapnel mode with its held Shield Satellite mode.
- Assuming Temporal Anchor prevents death without being active, or that its save avoids knockdown.
