Understand Syam
Useful when…
- Use the normal attack profile for its listed Impact, Puncture, and Slash damage.
- Consider the separately listed shockwave projectile entries when evaluating its Heavy Attack options.
- Use the listed slam and heavy slam profiles to assess its area attack damage and falloff.
Normal attacks and handling
Normal attacks list 270 total damage: 54 Impact, 108 Puncture, and 108 Slash. They have 22% critical chance, a 2× critical multiplier, and 34% status chance. Listed melee range is 2.5 m; attack speed is 1, combo duration is 5 seconds, follow-through is 0.7, and Heavy Attack wind-up is 0.5 seconds.
Heavy Attack shockwave entries
The description says Heavy Attacks send forth shockwaves. The details list a First Shockwave projectile with 500 Heat damage and a Second Shockwave projectile with 1,500 Heat damage. Keep their listed damage values separate when assessing the weapon.
Slam attacks
The Slam Attack lists 540 Impact damage in an area, with falloff from 0 to 6 m and 50% reduction. Heavy Slam lists 810 Blast damage, with falloff from 0 to 7 m and 30% reduction. These are distinct attack modes; their damage types and falloff values should not be merged with the normal attack or shockwave entries.
Other Duviri melee options
Argo & Vel is a sword and shield whose Heavy Attack sends a glaive that ricochets off enemies. Corufell briefly transforms into a Gunblade during Heavy Attacks, while Sarofang's Heavy Slam vortex requires an 8× Combo Multiplier, or 5× in Voruna's hands.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Heavy Attack wind-up is listed as 0.5 seconds.
- The two shockwave entries have separate damage values, but their relationship and range are unspecified.
- Slam and Heavy Slam use separate damage types and falloff values.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not add the 500 and 1,500 Heat shockwave entries together as one attack value.
- Do not assume the shockwaves have a known range, trigger sequence, or the normal attack's damage split.
- Do not conflate Slam Attack damage and falloff with Heavy Slam or shockwave values.
