Understand Tonbo
Useful when…
- Use normal attacks to take advantage of its Slash-heavy damage and 25% status chance.
- Use the 3 m range for melee reach and slams for area damage.
- Consider the built-in Madurai polarity when arranging mods.
How does it handle?
Tonbo's normal attack deals 184 listed damage: 138 Slash, 27.6 Puncture, and 18.4 Impact. It has 5% critical chance, a 2× multiplier, 25% status chance, and listed speed 1. The weapon has 3 m range, 0.6 follow-through, 55-degree blocking angle, and a 0.9-second heavy-attack wind-up.
What do the slam modes do?
A regular slam deals 368 Blast in an area, with falloff to 7 m and 50% reduction. A heavy slam deals 552 Blast in an area, with falloff to 8 m and 30% reduction. The separate heavy-attack damage listing is 1,104. Both slam modes list 10% status chance, so the normal attack's 25% status chance should not be carried over to them.
What investment makes sense?
Tonbo requires Mastery Rank 3 and has a rank cap of 30. Its low listed critical chance makes a status-oriented direction a more natural consideration from the base stats: normal attacks have 25% status chance and are predominantly Slash. It comes with a Madurai polarity. The recipe lists two Control Modules, 2,000 Ferrite, 100 Oxium, and 800 Plastids; crafting time is 43,200 seconds (12 hours).
How do alternatives differ?
Dakra Prime is a sword with 36% listed critical chance and a 2.4× multiplier, rather than a long-reach polearm. Anku is a scythe, while Ankyros is a fist weapon whose description emphasizes close-quarters combat and speed.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Very low listed critical chance; normal attacks instead have 25% status chance and Slash-heavy damage.
- The heavy-attack wind-up is 0.9 seconds.
- Slam attacks have 10% listed status chance, unlike the normal attack's 25%.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not apply the normal attack's 25% status chance to either slam mode.
- Do not confuse the 1,104 heavy-attack listing with the 552 heavy-slam figure.
- Do not build around high base critical chance; the listed value is 5%.
