Understand Icy Avalanche
Useful when…
- Use when Avalanche can hit enemies and allies are within Affinity Range to receive the augment's Overguard.
- Rank it when increasing both per-enemy Overguard components is valuable.
How is Overguard granted?
At max rank, each enemy hit grants 60 Overguard, plus 20% of Frost's Armor, once per enemy. At rank 0 the values are 40 Overguard and 5% of Armor per enemy; rank 2 gives 50 Overguard and 15% of Armor per enemy. The augment affects allies within Affinity Range. The listed formula does not provide a cap or a final total for a particular Armor value and number of enemies.
Slot and alternatives
Icy Avalanche is a standard-slot Frost augment with Zenurik polarity and base drain 6. Freeze Force instead grants allies within 15 m additional Cold damage to attacks when its hold-to-cast condition is used. Chilling Globe and Cold Front modify Snow Globe. These are different ability effects and are not substitutes for Avalanche's Overguard grant.
Rank investment
The three rank steps cost 30, 60, and 120 Endo, plus 1,449, 2,898, and 5,796 credits. Ranking raises both the flat Overguard per enemy hit and the percentage of Armor added per enemy hit. The latter makes the stated benefit responsive to Frost's Armor, but no final Overguard total can be stated without that value and the number of enemies hit.
Conditions to remember
The grant depends on Avalanche hitting enemies, and allies must be within Affinity Range. Freeze Force's 15 m ally condition is separate and should not be confused with Icy Avalanche's Affinity Range.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Uses a standard Frost slot.
- Its team benefit depends on enemy hits and allied Affinity Range.
- The armor-based component depends on Frost's Armor.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming allies outside Affinity Range receive the Overguard.
- Ignoring the per-enemy trigger and Frost Armor component when estimating the grant.
- Confusing the range condition with Freeze Force's separate 15 m condition.
