Metal Fiber

Companion armor mod

Released Mar 18, 2013

Metal Fiber increases a companion's armor by up to 250%. Consider it when your companion's armor is an important part of its survivability and you have a standard companion mod slot available.

Understand Metal Fiber

Useful when…

  • Raise companion armor through a standard slot.
  • Invest in armor when that defensive stat is relevant to your companion setup.

Effect and fit

Metal Fiber grants +23% Armor at rank 0, +136% at rank 5, and +250% at rank 10. It is a Common, Vazarin-polarity companion mod with standard slot type and base drain 4. The effect is an armor bonus; it does not directly increase shields.

Ranking and slot choice

The mod has ten ranks. The listed step from rank 9 to 10 costs 5,120 Endo and 247,296 Credits, while rank 5 to 6 costs 320 Endo and 15,456 Credits. Rank it as far as the marginal armor and resource cost suit your companion build.

Related companion defenses

Link Fiber increases maximum armor by +125% of the Warframe's armor, a different armor source from Metal Fiber's bonus to companion armor. Accelerated Deflection changes shield recharge and delay; Aerial Bond has airborne-kill recovery effects and creates a cold field while the Warframe is airborne. These serve distinct defensive or utility goals. Metal Fiber is explicitly incompatible with Link Fiber.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Uses a standard companion slot for armor rather than shields or another utility effect.
  • The final rank has a high listed fusion cost.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating the armor bonus as shield recharge or a shield increase.
  • Equipping Link Fiber alongside Metal Fiber despite the explicit incompatibility.
