Dwarf Fortress · Progression
Skill progression through use
Skills improve as dwarves use them: experience gained from a task advances the corresponding skill, and higher levels can make work faster or more effective.
How it works
Skill levels can also be taught through demonstrations in a guildhall or military training. The current-version skill page describes a range of named ranks, from Novice upward, but this reference does not use its numerical experience progression details. Focus on assigning work that builds skills relevant to the tasks your fortress needs.
