Understand Swift Sneak
Useful when…
- Moving more quickly while sneaking through dangerous areas
- Improving movement while crawling
How much faster is sneaking?
Each level adds 15% of walking speed to sneaking speed. The Java reading lists normal sneaking at 30% of walking speed, then 45%, 60% and 75% at levels I, II and III. Swift Sneak also increases crawling movement speed. It affects movement, not damage or protection.
Where does it go?
Swift Sneak supports leggings across the listed armor materials. The reading says its only acquisition source is ancient city loot chests, making it non-renewable. The enchantment has a maximum normal level of III; levels IV and V described in the reading are command-only and should not guide ordinary progression.
When should I seek it out?
Prioritize it if sneaking is a frequent part of your exploration and the increased pace would help you move while remaining crouched. Level III reaches three quarters of normal walking speed, a substantial gain over the 30% baseline. Because its source is limited to ancient city chests, the investment makes most sense when this movement benefit is useful to your play.
What are its limits?
Swift Sneak does not make sneaking as fast as ordinary walking at its normal maximum level, and its boost is not a general walking-speed bonus. The reading also notes an effect in water, but says it remains slower than regular underwater walking even when combined with Depth Strider. It belongs on leggings, so it cannot replace a boots movement enchantment.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Improves cautious movement but does not increase normal walking speed.
- Only found in ancient city chests per the supplied Java reading.
- Normal level cap is III; higher cited levels are command-only.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Swift Sneak to increase ordinary walking speed.
- Applying it to boots instead of leggings.
- Treating command-only levels above III as standard progression.
