Armor pieces and coverage
Armor is made and worn as individual pieces, not as a single suit. Each piece protects particular body areas, and the combination determines the coverage a dwarf has.
How it works
The source distinguishes breastplates, which protect upper and lower torso areas, from mail shirts, which also cover the neck, upper arms, and upper legs. When considering protection, account for which areas a piece covers. The evidence does not provide a single equipment combination that is best for every situation.
