Understand Fire Aspect
Useful when…
- Add burning damage with direct hits against targets that can burn.
- Obtain cooked meat from eligible mobs killed while burning or directly by the enchanted weapon.
Direct-hit effect
A direct hit ignites the victim for four seconds at level I or eight seconds at level II. The reading estimates fire damage at 3 HP for level I and 7 HP for level II, because the first second of fire damage is not counted after the weapon hit. Fire Aspect applies to supported melee weapons including swords, spears, and the mace. The effect requires a direct damage source.
Cooked drops and fire immunity
A mob that normally drops raw meat drops cooked meat if it is killed while burning or directly by the enchanted weapon. Fire immunity limits the effect: the reading names piglins, piglin brutes, and hoglins as exceptions among Nether-exclusive mobs, and also lists ender dragons, withers, and wardens as immune. The supplied Java reading does not describe Fire Aspect as lighting candles or campfires.
Levels and anvil multipliers
Fire Aspect has a maximum level of II, with four seconds of ignition added per level. Anvil operations use a book multiplier of 2 and an item multiplier of 4; these are multipliers, not fixed XP prices.
Attack-mode caveats
The reading says an offhand spear charge attack does not apply Fire Aspect. If applied to a trident through commands or an anvil in Creative mode, the enchantment does not give the thrown projectile the described ignition effects.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Fire Aspect adds burning damage and can cook eligible meat drops, but fire-immune targets negate its combat effect.
- Level II extends ignition duration; anvil operations use multipliers of 2 for books and 4 for items.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting fire damage against fire-immune mobs such as the ender dragon, wither, or warden.
- Relying on an offhand spear charge attack to apply Fire Aspect.
- Assuming cooked meat requires a kill by the enchanted weapon; a mob killed while burning can also drop cooked meat.
