Tools & weapons

Netherite Axe

Introduced in Java 1.16Durable high-tier wood tool and slow, heavy melee weaponGuide

The Netherite Axe is a high-tier axe for chopping wood-related blocks, stripping logs, and scraping wax or oxidation from copper. In Java Edition it also hits hard and disables a shield user's shield for 5 seconds, but its one-second recovery makes it slower in sustained attacks than a sword. Consider upgrading a diamond axe when its extra durability, mining efficiency, attack damage, and fire resistance as a dropped item justify the smithing materials.

Armor

Netherite Boots

Introduced in Java 1.16High-tier foot armor with toughness, knockback resistance, and movement enchantmentsGuide

Netherite Boots provide 3 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. Consider upgrading diamond boots when those defensive properties and the durability and fire resistance of netherite gear are worth the smithing cost; the boot slot also supports fall protection, underwater movement, soul-sand speed, or Frost Walker's ice trail.

Armor

Netherite Chestplate

Introduced in Java 1.16High-tier chest armor with strong armor, toughness, and knockback resistanceGuide

The Netherite Chestplate is a chest-slot defensive upgrade providing 8 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. Consider it when upgrading diamond armor for durable protection; its high durability and netherite fire resistance support long-term use, while chestplate enchantments let you tailor damage reduction or longevity.

Armor

Netherite Helmet

Introduced in Java 1.16High-tier head armor with toughness, knockback resistance, and underwater enchantmentsGuide

The Netherite Helmet provides 3 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. Consider upgrading a diamond helmet when the defensive benefits, durability, and fire resistance of netherite gear justify the ingot and template. Respiration and Aqua Affinity add clear value for underwater exploration and mining.

Tools & weapons

Netherite Hoe

Introduced in Java 1.16Durable farming and plant-block toolGuide

The Netherite Hoe tills eligible soil instantly and harvests plant-based blocks more quickly. Use it for farm preparation and repeated plant-block harvesting; its netherite upgrade adds durability and mining speed over a diamond hoe. In Java Edition, it is a poor combat choice.

Tools & weapons

Netherite Horse Armor

Introduced in Java 1.21.11Protective armor for eligible horsesGuide

Netherite Horse Armor provides an equipped adult horse or zombie horse with 19 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. Horse armor has no durability, and it protects zombie horses from burning in sunlight. The upgrade track lists diamond horse armor, a netherite ingot, and a smithing template as materials.

Armor

Netherite Leggings

Introduced in Java 1.16Leg armor for player protectionGuide

Netherite Leggings occupy the legs armor slot and provide 6 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance. They have 555 durability and can be upgraded from diamond leggings with a netherite ingot and smithing template.

Tools & weapons

Netherite Nautilus Armor

Introduced in Java 1.21.11Protective body armor for a tamed nautilusGuide

Netherite Nautilus Armor equips on a tamed nautilus in Java. It provides 19 armor points, 3 armor toughness, and 10% knockback resistance to its wearer. The listed smithing upgrade requires diamond nautilus armor, a netherite ingot, and a smithing template.

Tools & weapons

Netherite Pickaxe

Introduced in Java 1.16High-durability pickaxe for mining stone and metal blocksGuide

The Netherite Pickaxe mines pickaxe-effective blocks at speed 9, with 2,031 durability. Use it for sustained mining and for blocks that require a high-tier pickaxe; its mining level is functionally the same as diamond's, so it does not unlock blocks diamond cannot mine.

Tools & weapons

Netherite Shovel

Introduced in Java 1.16Durable digging and terrain-shaping toolGuide

The Netherite Shovel breaks shovel-effective soil blocks at speed 9 and can create dirt paths or extinguish campfires. Use it for digging and terrain work; its Java attack is slow, so it is a situational weapon rather than a dedicated combat tool.

Tools & weapons

Netherite Spear

Introduced in Java 1.21.11Java 26.3 equipment referenceGuide

The Netherite Spear has a grounded jab with listed reach from 2 to 4.5 blocks and a held charge with speed and duration conditions. A listed upgrade path uses a Diamond Spear, Netherite Ingot, and Smithing Template.

Tools & weapons

Netherite Sword

Introduced in Java 1.16General-purpose melee weaponGuide

The Netherite Sword deals 8 HP base damage on a fully charged Java hit and has a −2.4 attack-speed modifier. Use it for regular melee combat and consider upgrading an enchanted diamond sword for greater durability and attack damage.
